Scientists first isolate embryonic stem cells from duck embryos and culture them on feeder layers with growth factors to maintain pluripotency and controlled proliferation. Over time, they gradually withdraw serum and feeders and adapt the cells to serum‑free, chemically defined media, then transition them from adherent growth to high-density suspension culture suitable for stirred-tank bioreactors.

In production, EB66® cells are grown to densities above 30 million cells/mL, then infected or transfected with the desired virus, viral vector, or recombinant construct, enabling efficient replication or protein expression with minimal toxic metabolite buildup. Short doubling times and telomerase activity support rapid scale-up while preserving genetic stability and a diploid karyotype. Secreted viral particles or recombinant proteins are harvested from the culture supernatant, clarified, and purified using standard downstream processes such as filtration and chromatography.
